Planning Your Caribbean Wedding Around the Weather and Season
Timing a Caribbean wedding is not just about the time of day, it is also about the time of year. The Caribbean’s climate follows fairly distinct seasonal patterns, and understanding them can save a lot of stress, and backup-plan scrambling, when it comes to planning outdoor photography.
The General Dry and Wet Season Pattern
Broadly speaking, much of the Caribbean follows a drier season roughly from December through April, and a wetter season roughly from May through November, though this varies by specific island and location. The dry season tends to bring more consistently sunny days and lower humidity, which is a big part of why it is a popular window for outdoor weddings and photography. The wetter season brings more frequent rain showers, often short and intense rather than all-day downpours, along with higher humidity.
Hurricane Season Is a Real Planning Factor
The Atlantic hurricane season officially runs from June through November, with activity typically peaking in the late summer and early fall. This does not mean outdoor weddings cannot happen during these months, many do, without issue, but it does mean it is worth building extra flexibility into planning: travel insurance, a covered backup location, and realistic expectations about the possibility of schedule changes.
Humidity Affects More Than Comfort
Higher humidity does not just affect how guests feel, it can affect hair, makeup longevity, and even lens fogging when a camera moves quickly between air-conditioned and outdoor environments. Photographers working in humid conditions often plan for extra touch-up time and let equipment acclimate before a shoot to avoid condensation issues.
Rain Is Not Always a Dealbreaker
A short tropical rain shower, common in the wetter months, often passes within twenty to thirty minutes. Many outdoor Caribbean weddings build a small weather buffer into the schedule for exactly this reason, and some of the most striking wedding photos come from the dramatic sky right after a shower clears.
